EVENT DATE - Sun 19/10/14 Venue - Moyglass Time - ------------------------------------------------- The Tipperary Uneven Age Cross Country Championships were held in Moyglass and Nenagh Olympic athletes did very well. The course was dry but had several long drags and the strong wind made running conditions tough. We finished the day with a host of individual medals as well as a team gold and three county champions. Girls U9 This was the first event of the day and Christine Percy was our sole participant. She had a super run to finish in 4th place over the 600m course. Boys U9 In the boys u9 race there were some fine performances, Ben Walsh ran very well and finished in 6th place, Conor Hodgins also did well for his 10th place finish and Darragh O'Dwyer was 27th . Girls U11 Our girls u11 performed well with Ellen O'Shaughnessy in 14th , Emma Mulcahy 17th and Hannah Grace 22nd. Boys U11 The Boys u11 race had the best finish of the day, with four Nenagh athletes all fighting for the title. Alex Reynolds prevailed in the sprint finish as he narrowly held off Luke Purcell with Tom Walsh in 3rd and Cian Hodgins in 5th. Well done lads on some great running. Also in this race and helping the lads to a team gold was Aidan O'Dwyer in 16th and Eoin Moloney in 20th. Girls U13 Lucy Mulcahy finished in 11th place in the girls u13 race missing out on a medal by one position. Boys U13 Ted Collins controlled the boys u13 race from start to finish to win gold and was followed home by Josh Egan who finished strongly for 2nd place. Joseph O'Donoghue finished 30th in the same race. Girls U15 Alannah Deering finished a crediitable 2nd in the girls u15 race. EVENT DATE - Sun 05/10/14 Venue - Turnpike, Two Mile Borris Start Time - 12:00 Uploaded by Garrett Moylan, with thanks to PRO Ray Deering ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Cross Country season kicked off last Sunday with the even age championships which were held in Two Mile Borris. Nenagh athletes excelled on the day winning both individual and team medals. This will be the venue for the Munster Championships in three weeks time and it was great for the athletes to experience what awaits them then. The course itself was dry, tough and very open to the elements with no shelter at all but that didn't seem to bother our athletes as they battled a strong wind but thankfully, no rain. We had several athletes either competing for the club or in cross country for the first time and they all did very well. Girls U10 (800m) Our girls u10 were first up and all four girls performed excellently in a very fast race. Hannah Grace was our first runner home, finishing in 24th place followed by Johanna Finn 44th, Polly Sharkey46th and Christine Percy in 53rd place. The girls were placed 9th in the team standings. Boys U10 team (800m) Our lads comfortably won the team section and it was no wonder as we had four finishing in the top ten over the course. Cian Hodgins ran a super race to take the title, finishing very strongly over the last 300m to surge to the front and claim the gold medal. Tom Walsh also continued his good recent form when finishing in 3rd place and he will improve with every outing. Zac Egan also ran a stormer when finishing 5th and it's by far his best cross country run to date, while Filip Mc Intyre in finishing in 9th place also produced his best performance so far. Jack O Callaghan just finished outside the individual medals in 13th but helped the team to gold as did Ben Walsh who despite being u9, ran brilliantly for an 18th place. Well done lads. Girls U12 Unfortunately we didn't have enough bodies to make up a team in this, but the three girls who turned up did themselves proud. Ailbhe O Neill had a brilliant run to finish in 8th place and showed great potential in doing so. Emma Mulcahy finished in 15th running well in the process and Eliza Burns who was making her debut for the club had a fine run to finish in 23rd. Boys U12 More team gold and some individual medals were won in the u12 boys race with four finishers in the top ten, where five of the six lads are still u11 which bodes well for two weeks time. Alex Reynolds had one of his better run to claim the bronze medal and on this form will be a serious contender in his own age group. Luke Purcell produced an excellent run for 5th place showing great determination in the closing stages, while Joseph O'Donoghue ran his best race for the club so far finishing 8th despite being an injury doubt all week. Eoin Moloney returned to competing for the club and made a great impact finishing 10th. Aidan O'Dwyer who was making his debut in a Nenagh singlet finished in a very good 14th place and will be one to watch in the future. Oisin Pepper finished in 18th place and Daniel Fogerty was 26th as both lads contributed to a fine team win. Girls U14 Lucy Mulcahy was our sole representive in the girls u14 race and finished in a respectable 11th place. Boys U14 Josh Egan collected a bronze medal in the boys u14 race where despite being out of age he ran very well to stay in touch with the leaders and in doing so claimed 3rd place. Girls U16 Alannah Deering had a very convincing win the girls u16 race over 4000m. Up front from the start, Alannah stretched away from the field to claim her county title. In the same race Fiona Molloy produced a storming finish to claim the bronze medal. Showing a never say die attitude, Fiona stayed in touch with the 3rd placed athlete before making her decisive move in the home stretch. Girls U18 Ciara Cummins claimed another county title when winning the u18 girls race over 4000m in fine style. Never troubled from the start Ciara cruised to victory while Aoife Deering who had been in 2nd place throughout the race had to stop near the finish due to illness and this allowed those behind her to pass and she finished in 4th place. Boys U18 Killian Cullagh was a comfortable winner of the 6000m u18 race where he took control at the mid-way point and was never headed. Richard O Donoghue was in 2nd place for most of the race but was unfortunately passed near the finish but will continue to improve with every race he runs. Overall it was a great start to the Cross Country season and hopefully we'll have more of the same in Moyglass for the un-even age groups in two weeks time. Well done to all who travelled to compete and to those who came to support them.
