EVENT DATE - Sun 02/08/14 Venue - Tullamore A.C. Start Time - Uploaded by Garrett Moylan, with thanks to PRO Ray Deering ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A team of our Junior and Senior athletes and a couple of guests competed in the Division 1 National League Final. Having topped the group stages we were one of the favourites to lift the title but despite a great effort by all of the lads Donore proved just too strong and we had to settle for the silver medals with a final pionts tally of 107 to Donore's 115. It was great to have a team representing the club in this competition after a long absence and it bodes well for the future of the club at a senior level. Well done to all of the athletes and to Sean and Denis for pulling it all together. Results of the day as follows. Paul White,,400m 1st (49.53), 200m 2nd (22.65). Venue - Tullamore Start Time - Uploaded by Garrett Moylan with thanks to Competitions Secretary Vinny White, Coaches, Selectors and other team members ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The second weekend of the National Juvenile Championships brought medals for some of our athletes, there were some fine performances over the two days of competition and most of our athletes can be pleased with their efforts. Michael Quilligan, by virtue of his gold medal in the U18 400m Hurdles, has now qualified for the Irish team for the upcoming Celtic Games and all in the club congratulate him on this great achievement. Saturday We had eight athletes in action and three medals were won in fine style. Michael Quilligan led the way with a brilliant run in the u18 400m Hurdles where he won gold and was crowned long hurdles champion for a third year in row. Mikey ran well throughout and lead coming into the home straight where he had to hold off a strong finishing opponent but he did so and got the verdict from the judges to claim a richly deserved gold in 55.75. Joseph Mc Evoy won silver in the u14 Javelin where he achieved a new personal best of 34.84m in the process. Joseph put together a fine series of throws and his technique looked good throughout the event. He later competed in the High Jump but unfortunately didn't have one of his better days, finishing 9th having cleared 1.35m. Ciara Cummins ran one of her best 800m races to finish in 3rd place in the u18 section. Pitted against a strong field, Ciara ran a very clever race, staying close to the front before launching a kick which saw her hold onto a bronze medal in a time of 2.19.62. Other Nenagh athletes in action were, Leah Farnan who finished 7th in her heat of the u17 400m (1.05.27), Aoife Deering 5th in the u18 3000m (11.49.04), Alannah Deering 11th in the u15 800m (2.32.43), Jack Mc Evoy 10th in the u13 Javelin (22.45m) and Killian Cullagh 11th in the u18 3000m (9.16.88) a new personal best for him. Sunday Only four of our athletes were in action today but a silver medal and some good performances were achieved. Sean Carolan won silver in the u14 boys Discus with a medal winning throw of 32.52m. This was a fine result for Sean and a deserved reward for the work he put in over the summer. Joseph Mc Evoy was in the same event and finished in a very credible 5th place with a throw of 27.56m. Other Nenagh athletes in action on Sunday were, Ciara Cummins who had a solid run in the girls u18 1500m finishing 5th in 4.53, Alannah Deering ran 5.07.98 to finish 6th in the girls u15 1500m, a much improved run on Saturdays performance. Well done to all who got to perform at national level and did the club proud. EVENT DATE - Sat 20/07/14 & Sun 21/07/14
Venue - Morton Stadium Start Time - Uploaded by Garrett Moylan with thanks to PRO Ray Deering and Coaches ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The club had five athletes in action over the two days of this competition. Competing at this level was a new new experience for our athletes and they acquitted themselves very well. Peter Ryan, who has only recently started competing for the club won a silver medal in the 56lb Weight for Height event with a throw of 4.10m This was a great performance by Peter considering he has just taken up this event and was only 20 cm behind the winner. Paul White ran a new personal best of 49.00secs in his 400m heat and was unfortunate not to make the final but a great run none the less. Dan Finnerty finished 6th in the 400m Hurdles final where he also produced a fine run of 58.74secs. Oisin Fitzpatrick was 6th in the 110m Hurdles final in a time of 15.94. Tom Hennessy didn't manage to progress from his 800m heat running 2.00.05 for 7th place. Rounding off the weekend our 4x400m relay team, Paul White, Dan Finnerty, Tom Hennessy and Michael Quilligan ran a very good time (3.25.72) to finish 5th. EVENT DATE - Sun 13/07/14 Venue - Tullamore Start Time - Uploaded by Garrett Moylan with thanks to Competitions Secretary Vinny White, Coaches and Selectors and Secretary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday saw the first day of the National Juvenile Championships held in Tullamore - two Nenagh Olympic athletes were crowned All Ireland Champions. Brian Naughton and Ciara Cummins both took gold in their events and Sean Carolan won a silver to complete a satisfactory day for the club. We also had some other good performances with a few 4ths, 5ths and 6th places but there were some disappointments as well. Brian Naughton and Sean Carolan completed a 1-2 in the u14 Hammer where both lads threw well and were comfortably ahead of the rest of their opposition. Brian and Sean have put in good work leading up to this event and it paid off with throws of 34.67m for Brian and 33.19m for Sean to claim their medals. Sean was 5th in the Long Jump later in the day where he was hampered by an injury but still managed a jump of 4.90m. Ciara Cummins lead the girls u18 2000m Steeplechase from start to finish where she proved too strong for the field and came home to victory in a time of 7.20.70 to claim another national title. Killian Cullagh was left disappointed when piped on the line for 3rd place in the boys u18 3000m Steeplechase. Killian was around the lead for most of the race but unfortunately didn't maintain his form at the vital time but we hope he'll learn from this experience. Josh Egan had a good day, performing well in both of his events, firstly in the High Jump where he finished 8th with a jump of 1.35m and then he was very unlucky to lose 3rd place in the final round of jumps in the Long Jump to finish 4th with 4.59m. Aoife Tierney was 6th in the girls u18 Pole vault with 2.25m while her sister Emily was 7th in the u15 High Jump clearing 1.45m with Alannah Deering also jumping 1.45m for 8th in the same event. All Ireland B Championships Denise Cullagh was our sole competitor in the All Ireland B Championships on the Saturday of the same weekend, she finished 8th in the u13 girls Shot with a throw of 5.15m Well done Denise and keep up the good efforts.
