While the number of our athletes in attendance at this event was very small - probably our smallest for years - (and this is somewhat disappointing to our coahces and others putting in hard work at the club), those who did turn up put in some excellent performances finishing with a total of 22 medals; seven gold, five silver and ten bronze.
The seven gold means seven Munster titles and four of those went to Joseph McEvoy who had a super weekend winning six medals in total and setting several new personal bests. Ciara Cummins, Michael Quilligan and Killian Cullagh also finished the weekend as Munster champions. Several of our athletes were multiple medal winners over the two days, Joseph McEvoy five, Sean Carloan four, Ciara Cummins three, Michael Quilligan and Alannah Deering two each as well as five other single medal wins. All in all it was a very positive experience for all of our competing athletes and well done to all of them. Our medal winners are as follows Boys u14: Joseph McEvoy..75m Hurdles 1st (12.33 secs), High Jump 1st (1,60m), Javelin 1st (27.99m), Discus 1st (29.58m) Long Jump 3rd (4.94m), Shot (11.62m) Sean Carolan..Hammer 1st (35.27m), Long Jump 2nd (4.96m), Discus 3rd (27,94m), Javelin 3rd (27.84m) Brian Naughton..Hammer 2nd (28.12m) Girls u15: Alannah Deering..800m 2nd (2.26.86), 1500m 2nd (5.09.98) Emily Tierney..High Jump 3rd (1.45m) Girls u17: Leah Farnan..400m 3rd (1.04.40) Aoife Tierney..High Jump 3rd (1.35m) Girls u18: Ciara Cummins..2000m Steeplechase 1st (7.25.00), 800m 3rd (2.21.26), 1500m 3rd (4.53.84) Boys u18: Michael Quilligan..400m Hurdles 1st (56.17), 400m 2nd (51.78). Boys U10 500m --- Cian Hodgins and Tom Walsh, 4th (by three hundredths of a second) Long Jump --- Cian Hodgins and Jack O Callaghan, 2nd Turbo Javelin --- Zak Egan and Filip Mc Intyre, 8th Relay --- Tom Walsh, Jack O Callaghan, Filip Mc Intyre, Zak Egan and Cian Hodgins, 2nd Boys u11 60m --- Tom Mc Cutheon and Oisin Pepper, 1st Turbo Javelin Alex Reynolds and Ben Connolly, 4th At the end of a very competitive day, our athletes amassed a team gold in the u11 60m, team silver in the u10 Long Jump and a silver in the U10 relay. Tom McCutheon and Oisin Pepper were crowned All Ireland u11 60m team champions when storming to victory in fine style in an event where Tom had to run his race twice due to technical difficulties. Well done lads on a great performance, Tom ran 9.20 while Oisin clocked 9.19 Cian Hodgins and Jack O'Callaghan jumped very well in the u10 long jump to claim the silver with jumps of 3.82m for Jack and 3.48m for Cian. Cian joined Tom Walsh for the u10 500m and when the times were added up, 1.37.78 for Tom and 1.38.29 for Cian, the lads just missed out on 3rd place by three hundredths of a second. This was a very brave attempt by both lads and it was very unfortunate for Cian that he was carrying an injury into the race but he gave his all and both will be challenging for honours soon. Alex Reynolds and Ben Connolly also just missed out on a medal when they finished 4th in the u11 Turbo Javelin. Alex threw 21.73m and Ben 19.10m. Zak Egan and Filip McIntyre finished 8th in the u10 Turbo Javelin with Zak throwing 10.09m and Filip 15.79m. Both lads gained great experience from competing at this level. Our boys u10 relay team rounded off the day in great style by winning the silver medal. After coming through their heat the team of Tom Walsh, Zak Egan, Filip McIntyre and Jack O'Callaghan put in a super effort in the final and were unlucky to miss out on the gold but. They put in a great performance, running 60.92secs. Well done to all of our athletes who got to this stage. This spells the end of their outdoor season and everybody can be very proud of their achievements to date throughout the year. Photos to follow...
