Venue - Morton Stadium Start Time - Uploaded by Garrett Moylan with thanks to PRO Ray Deering and Coaches ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The club had five athletes in action over the two days of this competition. Competing at this level was a new new experience for our athletes and they acquitted themselves very well. Peter Ryan, who has only recently started competing for the club won a silver medal in the 56lb Weight for Height event with a throw of 4.10m This was a great performance by Peter considering he has just taken up this event and was only 20 cm behind the winner. Paul White ran a new personal best of 49.00secs in his 400m heat and was unfortunate not to make the final but a great run none the less. Dan Finnerty finished 6th in the 400m Hurdles final where he also produced a fine run of 58.74secs. Oisin Fitzpatrick was 6th in the 110m Hurdles final in a time of 15.94. Tom Hennessy didn't manage to progress from his 800m heat running 2.00.05 for 7th place. Rounding off the weekend our 4x400m relay team, Paul White, Dan Finnerty, Tom Hennessy and Michael Quilligan ran a very good time (3.25.72) to finish 5th. EVENT DATE - Sun 13/07/14 Venue - Tullamore Start Time - Uploaded by Garrett Moylan with thanks to Competitions Secretary Vinny White, Coaches and Selectors and Secretary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday saw the first day of the National Juvenile Championships held in Tullamore - two Nenagh Olympic athletes were crowned All Ireland Champions. Brian Naughton and Ciara Cummins both took gold in their events and Sean Carolan won a silver to complete a satisfactory day for the club. We also had some other good performances with a few 4ths, 5ths and 6th places but there were some disappointments as well. Brian Naughton and Sean Carolan completed a 1-2 in the u14 Hammer where both lads threw well and were comfortably ahead of the rest of their opposition. Brian and Sean have put in good work leading up to this event and it paid off with throws of 34.67m for Brian and 33.19m for Sean to claim their medals. Sean was 5th in the Long Jump later in the day where he was hampered by an injury but still managed a jump of 4.90m. Ciara Cummins lead the girls u18 2000m Steeplechase from start to finish where she proved too strong for the field and came home to victory in a time of 7.20.70 to claim another national title. Killian Cullagh was left disappointed when piped on the line for 3rd place in the boys u18 3000m Steeplechase. Killian was around the lead for most of the race but unfortunately didn't maintain his form at the vital time but we hope he'll learn from this experience. Josh Egan had a good day, performing well in both of his events, firstly in the High Jump where he finished 8th with a jump of 1.35m and then he was very unlucky to lose 3rd place in the final round of jumps in the Long Jump to finish 4th with 4.59m. Aoife Tierney was 6th in the girls u18 Pole vault with 2.25m while her sister Emily was 7th in the u15 High Jump clearing 1.45m with Alannah Deering also jumping 1.45m for 8th in the same event. All Ireland B Championships Denise Cullagh was our sole competitor in the All Ireland B Championships on the Saturday of the same weekend, she finished 8th in the u13 girls Shot with a throw of 5.15m Well done Denise and keep up the good efforts.

Five silver and Three bronze was our haul for the day and our athletes can be proud of their efforts, where several new personal bests were set. Juniors Killian Cullagh won a silver in the 3000m Steeplechase where he broke the 10 minute mark for the first time with a great run of 9.45.33. Dan Finnerty also had a great run in his 400m hurdles when he finished 2nd in a time of 62.36. Mark Tierney won silver in the 35lb weight for distance with a best throw of 7.23m and he also finished 5th in the Discus (31.34m). Paul White had another fine run in the 400m to claim silver in 49.31. Ciara Cummins set a new personal best of 4.45.85 in the 1500m and finished in 3rd place. Junior mens relay 4X400 had good success when Tom Hennessy, Paul White, Liam Finn and Michael Quilligan finishing 2nd in the 4x400m Junior mens relay 4x100 also had good success, with Tom Hennessy, Dan Finerty, Liam Finn and Michael Quilligan finishing 3rd but the results are not finalised just yet as there was an inquiry about a team that participated but our lads are guaranteed a medal of some colour. Under 23's Oisin Fitzpatrick ran 15.85 in the u23 110 Hurdles final to claim the bronze medal and it's great to see him back competing again. Well done to all of our athletes who travelled to Cork and competed so well for the club._ |
