Combined Events and other Athletics News

This weekend was a relatively quiet week for the club but Alex Reynolds kept the club flag flying with a fabulous win in the U15 All Ireland combined event in Morton stadium Santry.
To win Alex had to be at his best and with four Pb’s in the five events he beat Hoade of Galway Harriers by 76 pts. His Pb’s included 13.98s in 80m H , 4.97m long jump , 11.51m shot putt and 2m27s 800m. Add those to his 1.56 High Jump and it all added up to a win with 3095 pts with second place on 3019pts.
Well done Alex on your first national title.

We had three athletes on International duty this weekend as Aoife Delargy, Ciara Cummins and Margaret Mary Grace represented the Irish Universities team against Scotland in the Celtic University challenge at Grangemouth in Scotland.
Ciara Cummins a seasoned international and former winner of Ireland’s fittest family got the Irish team off to a great start when she won the 3000m Steeplechase in 12m 12s.
Aoife Delargy also had a great run when she finished second in a very competitive 800m race in 2m16s.
Margaret Mary Grace was fourth in the 400m and then teamed up with Aoife on the Irish 4x400m team who had a good win over their Scottish counterparts.
So well done Ladies on doing yourselves, families & club proud.

Not to be outdone in the Sage household last weekend Matthew shows big brother James how it’s done with 1st in the 80m & 2nd in the 800m at the county b’s in Moyne. Well done Matthew.
