We had the Munster senior indoor championships in Nenagh on Sunday and boy was it cold. But we didn’t have too long to wait for things to warm up with our first athlete of the day Darren Dunne dominating the 3000m from start to finish and coming away with a new PB of 8m36s for his third win in 3 weekends. That was also a Championship best performance so especially well done Darren.
Next up in the 400m we had Paul White & Dan Finnerty opening their seasonal account’s. Paul showed us why he is an international runner with a beautifully fluent effortless looking run to win in a time of 49.8. Dan had a very solid opener also when finishing 4th in 54.1s. The next race of interest for us was the 1500m with Aaron Quigley stepping down a distance from his usual 3000m and showed everyone that he is no one trick pony with a new PB of 4.25 on his way to the Munster senior title. Aaron just gets better and better and it great to see all his hard work paying off. Our field event athletes were not to be outdone with 16 yr old Joe McEvoy winning the high jump with a 1.85m clearance and then Deirbhile Ryan our only senior lady on the day had a fine throw of 10.96m to finish second in the shot. We finished off the day with a good win in the senior men’s 4x200 m relay with a revised lineup of Dan Finnerty, Ted Collins, Liam Finn & Paul White. Ted showed some good speed for his upcoming 800m races. It’s back to the Juveniles next week with the munster U9/19 relays in Nenagh.
