Combined Events and other Athletics NewsThis weekend was a relatively quiet week for the club but Alex Reynolds kept the club flag flying with a fabulous win in the U15 All Ireland combined event in Morton stadium Santry. To win Alex had to be at his best and with four Pb’s in the five events he beat Hoade of Galway Harriers by 76 pts. His Pb’s included 13.98s in 80m H , 4.97m long jump , 11.51m shot putt and 2m27s 800m. Add those to his 1.56 High Jump and it all added up to a win with 3095 pts with second place on 3019pts. Well done Alex on your first national title. We had three athletes on International duty this weekend as Aoife Delargy, Ciara Cummins and Margaret Mary Grace represented the Irish Universities team against Scotland in the Celtic University challenge at Grangemouth in Scotland. Ciara Cummins a seasoned international and former winner of Ireland’s fittest family got the Irish team off to a great start when she won the 3000m Steeplechase in 12m 12s. Aoife Delargy also had a great run when she finished second in a very competitive 800m race in 2m16s. Margaret Mary Grace was fourth in the 400m and then teamed up with Aoife on the Irish 4x400m team who had a good win over their Scottish counterparts. So well done Ladies on doing yourselves, families & club proud. Not to be outdone in the Sage household last weekend Matthew shows big brother James how it’s done with 1st in the 80m & 2nd in the 800m at the county b’s in Moyne. Well done Matthew. Munster Schools Competition NewsNews from the Munster Schools Competition. Alex Reynolds 33.73m won the munster schools junior Discus . Great run by Josh Egan in the Inter 400m hurdles with a third place finish in 62.2 representing St Munchin’s . The Borrisoleigh junior 4x100 m team of Eoin , Louis , James , Aaron & Alex who won the Munster Schools title. Borrisoleigh minor 3rd and Junior 1st relay teams at the Munster Schools championships. Luke Purcell had a fine run to place fifth in the Junior boys 1500m. Luke is underage for this age group again next year. Joseph McEvoy had a busy but successful day at the Munster schools with 1st High Jump 1.90m, 1st Javelin 44.80 Pb and also anchored the St Anne’s, Ballina 4x100m relay team to 3rd place. Ben Connolly representing Nenagh CBS finished 3rd in the minor boys javelin, silver in the minor longjump. Great to see Nenagh's throwers to the fore with Munster titles for Sean and Alex in the inter and junior Discus. Gold and bronze for Joseph and Ben in the senior and junior javelin. And bronze for Josh in the inter shot. James Sage showing lovely hurdling form when finishing a very close second in the junior boys hurdles. Jodie McGrath in top form finishing 3rd in minor girls 80m hurdles in the Munster schools. Sarah Lane winning a bronze medal in the Munster Schools Inter 800m in a 2m.18s Pb. Cian Hodgins 2nd & Tom Walshe 3rd in Munster schools minor 800m. Ailbhe O’Neill first and Munster Schools 800m champion.
