The club had a busy weekend of indoor competition in our own indoor complex with three munster championships running concurrently, no pun intended, read on for the story... Munster U23 The munster U23 competition saw a great start to the weekend with a one / two finish for Darren Dunne & Aaron Quigley in the U23 1500m. Darren has hit the ground running this year with a win in the county senior 3000m last weekend and followed it up this week with a new PB of 4.09.3 when winning the Munster U23 title . His team mate Aaron Quigley followed up his second place finish in last weeks county 3000m with second in the munster U23 1500 behind Darren. Ciara Cummins continued our great start to the season with a good win in the Munster U23 800m in 2.19. This follows last weeks win in the county senior 600m in 1.46 so we wish her well as its back to DCU this week for exams. Liam Finn was the last of our U23 quartet off the mark and he had a fine run in the 400m to claim the bronze medal. Munster U20 We had two competitors in the Munster U20 competition. Joe McEvoy had his first competition since last July when he injured his ankle in last year’s All Ireland hurdles final. He showed he is well on the way back to full fitness with a good win in the high jump with a jump of 1.85m off just a five step run in. Ted Collins was our other U20 competitor and despite being still only 15 yrs of age he show his undoubted talent when finishing fifth in a very competitive 400m in 56s. He will be eligible to run in this competition for another 3 yrs so it will be interesting to chart his progress. Munster Juvenile Combined Events We also had munster juvenile combined events this weekend and our star in this competition was young Michael Ryan who took the bronze medal in the U11 event after a long day. Mikey's day didn’t start brilliantly, with a mediocre result in the shot put but, from there, things got better and better. He started the last event the 600m in seventh position so he needed a good result. That’s exactly what he delivered with a fine win in 2.04 to haul himself up to third position to the delight of his parents Ger & Edel. Our two other competitors on the day were Alex Reynolds and Ben Connolly in the U15 event. These two boys are making great strides of late and in finishing fourth and fifth showed why we have great hopes for these boys in the future. Next week we move on to the All Ireland senior indoor league in Dublin on Saturday and the Munster seniors in Nenagh on Sunday.
