Our coaches Sean Finn and Denis Finnerty completed the first five day module of their AAI Level 3/ IAAF 4 Level Course recently at ALSAA, Dublin. The group was comprised of coaches from four disciplines – Sprints & Hurdles, Endurance & Walks, Jumps, and Throws and there was a great mix of experience among the group. These first five days dealt with the ‘Generic Theory’ areas of each event group, and during the course there is a lot of group work.
Both Sean and Denis enjoyed the five days as the coaches ranged in experience from those coaching for many years, to ex-athletes developing their coaching skills further, to younger coaches keen to expand their knowledge and this mix allowed a lot of healthy discussion and exchange of views to take place. The next part of this course is on in early 2014 and sees the group broken into their four event specific groups where they will focus on the practical application of the learning they did in the first part of the course. We await with interest as to what both of these ''Fountains of Knowledge'' will bring back to us at the end of the course... Membership registration/renewal day was Thur 5th December this year.
