Munster Entries for U14 to U19 Competition
All Ireland Schools Competition Results
The club had athletes representing many different schools in the locality from Ballina to Borrisoleigh & Nenagh to Newport.
So starting in that order St Anne’s, Ballina had Joe McEvoy & Sarah Lane and Joe picked up the silver medal in the Javelin throwing over 43m but was a little off form in the high jump which is normally his strongest event finishing 4th with 1.85m.
Sarah Lane would have had high hopes of a medal in the inter 800m but suffering a migraine on the day meant she did well to finish 5th. These are the days sent to test us Sarah and I’m sure you will soon be back to your best.
St Joseph’s Borrisoleigh next and their star Athlete on the day was James Sage who picked up the silver medal after a storming run in the junior 80m hurdles. James is going from strength to strength and must be looking to the rest of the year with great relish .The school also had a 4th place finish from Alex Reynolds in the junior Discus with 32m and Tom McCutcheon was 6th in the Minor boys 100m in 12.8s. Borrisoleigh also finished 5th in the Junior relay.
Nenagh had two schools participating and The CBS captured gold when Toomevara’s Mark Carroll with a fine leap of 5.92 took the gold medal in junior boys.
Two of our endurance stars Tom Walshe & Cian Hodgins were in the minor 800m. Both boys ran very well against older athletes with Tom’s track speed shining through for a new Pb of 2.14 for sixth and Cian who will be more at home with a longer distance also had a Pb of 2.16 for 7th.
Ben Connolly’s throw of 33.54 was enough for a 6th place finish in the junior boys Javelin.
The Girls of St Marys did a fine job of keeping the flag flying for the Ladies with Ailbhe O’Neill lowering her 800m Pb by 3 1/2 Sec to 2.18 when capturing the bronze medal in the junior girls.
St Mary’s were also represented by Jodie McGrath in the junior Pole vault and her clearance of 2.30 was a new Pb finishing 6th only 10cm off third and Jodie is young enough for this age group again next year.
Seán Carolan representing St Marys Newport had a great day with Gold in the inter boys Discus with 42m and silver in the long jump with a jump of 6.54m.
So another good day for both schools and club and with the schools track now finished we move on to the munster club track championships over the next two weeks.
