Munsters Junior / U23 & Juvenile Events and Borrisoleigh Mile EventAs summer finally arrived this week the athletes at the Munster Junior / U23 & Juvenile combined events basked in 20 deg of sunshine in Templemore on Saturday. We didn’t have big numbers competing as some did the varsities a week earlier and the younger athletes have the first Schools comp on Wednesday. So it was quality rather than quantity and we had a number of stars on the day.
In the Juvenile combined competition Alex Reynolds had a comprehensive win in the U 15 pentathlon. Jumping 1.52 in the high jump and running 2.28 in the 800m shows his versatility in this event. His team mate Ben Connolly had a good competition to claim the silver medal in the same competition. The Irish international Joe McEvoy had a superb High Jump competition to finally get over 2m for the first time in the U18 event. This should give him the confidence to go even higher later in the year. Another International and winner of Ireland’s fittest family Ciara Cummins followed up her fine bronze medal performance in the Irish University’s last week with a gold medal performance in the U23 800m in 2m.18s. Also we had Aaron Quigley win his first munster title in the U23 5000m in a championship best time of 16.37. Great to see this hard working athlete getting his Just awards. Last but not least was Brian Naughton who got his outdoor season off to a good start with a bronze medal in the Junior hammer with a throw of 41m. With the schools just a matter of weeks away the season is already showing great promise. A group of Athletes attended the Borrisoleigh track attack road mile . With Tom 1st Aaron 3rd , Seamus 4th, Cian 1st U18, Tom 2nd U18 , Ailbhe 1st U18 & Sarah 2nd U18 out of over 700 taking part they can be well pleased with themselves.
